Theatre I, II and Speech Syllabus and Expectations

Text Acting for life, a textbook on acting by Jack Frakes
Students will be required to participate in all classroom activities in a positive manner. We will be studying various types of theater and forensic activities including plays and individual performances. Assignments may be expected to be memorized and students will be expected to act in front of the class either alone or in a group.
Students will be responsible to keep a drama notebook for each semester. This will include all activities that have been covered throughout the year, including assignments and class notes.
3. Second semister students will be expected to compete in Reader's Theater or One Act Competition either as a performer or as crew. Casting will be by class audition.
Students are required to attend all St. Pius productions.
5. This is a performance based class, so students will be graded based on participation. Students will be expected to know theater terms. Students will also be graded on various speech and monologue writing and performances.
Daily class performance, quizzes, tests, performance participation and St. Pius performance attendance will be 80%, and the final will be 20% of the student's grade;
Show respect to others at all times;
The instructor, not the bell will dismiss you;
You will be expected to show any adult in the classroom respect at all times;
Food and drink are not allowed in the classroom other than water in clear containers-no gum while acting or rehearsing;
Gum chewing will result in a reduction of daily participation score.
