Course Description: English I will focus on all areas of communication: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students will explore various genres, time periods and cultures through the literature that we read. Students will enhance the writing skills through vocabulary, grammar, mechanics, MLA formatting, journaling and formal writing. Most grammar, mechanics, usage and spelling will be addressed on individual writings, but mini-lessons may be incorporated to emphasize specific deficits. Building on their prior knowledge, students will gain new knowledge and understanding in the areas of research, test-taking, study skills, and organization.
9/14/12 - This week in English I we have been wrapping up the short stories that focus on plot, setting and character and will have a test over them on Tuesday. The students have a review sheet that they should be working on for extra credit. We also began a personal reading assignment this week which will culminate in a book report near the end of the semester. In September, we started vocabulary as well. Each month we will have 25 words to focus on. We will do activities each week and test over the words on the last Friday of each month. We continue to work on writing good essay question answers.
Have a great week! Freshmen, study for the test! Mrs. C
