Catholic Schools Week: January 30-February 3, 2017
The theme for Catholic Schools Week 2017 is: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service. To celebrate these three components of our community, Student Council has planned some special activities. Throughout the week, prayers will be offered in thanksgiving for all of the gifts with which the St. Pius X community is blessed, with a focus on the parents and friends in the SPX community who do so much for all of us.
On Monday, January 30th - we will celebrate our SPX community with a Blue/Gold day! Students should come decked out in blue and gold to demonstrate how great it is to be a Warrior. During lunch, we will also be hosting our local police officers and firefighters as a small thank you for their service.
On Tuesday, January 31st - we appreciate one half of our community of knowledge--the students. We know we have the best students here at SPX, so we will honor them with an ice cream sundae bar at lunch! Students are also allowed to dress down with a St. Pius shirt. During lunch, you will be signing cards that will be delivered to the Catholic schools in our community on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, February 1st - we show our appreciation for the other Catholic schools in our community. Students are allowed to wear spirit wear from their grade school with their SPX uniform pants. We will be delivering gift baskets and the cards signed on Tuesday to the front offices of our Catholic grade schools.
On Thursday, February 2nd - accolades go to the other half of our community of knowledge--the faculty and staff who guide and encourage the students in their academic efforts. To thank them, StuCo will provide breakfast for them and the faculty and staff will have their own jeans day.
On Friday, February 3rd - Mass allows our community to practice our faith, receive the eucharist, hear God’s word, and praise God for our many blessings.
Please Note: On dress down days, students may wear jeans or sweats, and all clothes should be school appropriate. There can be no wigs and face paint, no yoga pants, no skirts, and no shorts. If a teacher has any question about a student’s attire, that student will be sent to Ms. Smith and may be sent home to change.
Snow Day/School Closing Notification
We use an automated telephone broadcasting system to communicate school closings to you. For snow days, the call will be launched between 5:30 - 6:30 a.m., or the night before if we know ahead of time. The numbers you have listed in My Student's Progress as home and mobile will be called through the automated system. We will also post messages on our social media accounts and website as well.
Please call Kerri O'Malley at email@example.com if you would like to change the number(s) listed in the My Student's Progress School Database.
St. Pius X will also announce its school closings over the television. The school closing is phoned into Channel 9. Channel 9 then distributes the information to the other local channels. Please look for “St. Pius X High School” when bad weather occurs. Some local channels have not always been reliable in the past. If you are unsure, check the website www.stpiusxhs-kc.com the notification will be on the homepage.
