This organization has chapters at each high school that has NHS. St. Pius X's chapter is the St. Thomas Aquinas chapter. Each chapter recognizes students whose academics, character, leadership, and service "stand out." At. St. Pius X, nominations occur during October; faculty and staff members do the nominating. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.00, and should be close to completing or have completed their graduation service requirement. Students are encouraged to submit résumés to faculty and support staff to assist in the nomination process.
Each quality of the NHS has a defining element to it which the document(s) to the left can reference to some extent. However, in the eyes of the nominator(s), the defining elements of character or leadership, for example, will vary in its interpretation and understanding.
Selection is by a faculty committee after nominations have been secured. Students and families are then contacted by mail and an induction Mass and reception celebrate this event, usually in early November.
